If you are moving to South Jordan and trying to work out where your children will go to school, there is one thing you need to know before anything else: the schools in South Jordan are not the same thing as the schools that serve South Jordan. The city is split between two high school feeder systems, and one of those high schools is not in South Jordan at all. Get that wrong and you can buy a house expecting Bingham and find yourself zoned to Herriman.

This page lists every school that serves a South Jordan address — public, charter, and private — with grade levels, addresses, and what each one is actually known for. Everything here was verified against Jordan School District's own records and each school's own website in September 2026. Where something could not be confirmed, I say so rather than guess.

Three things that make schooling in South Jordan different

1. The grade structure is not the usual one. Jordan School District runs elementary as K–6, middle school as grades 7–9, and high school as grades 10–12. Ninth graders here are still in middle school. If you are relocating from a state where ninth grade is high school, this catches almost everyone by surprise.

2. South Jordan feeds two different high schools. The eastern and central parts of the city feed Bingham High School, which is on South Jordan Parkway. Daybreak and the western side feed Herriman High School, which is physically in Herriman, about ten minutes southwest. Both are large, well-regarded comprehensive high schools — but they are different schools with different boundaries, and the line between them runs through the middle of the city.

3. There is an unusually deep charter bench. Five public charter schools sit inside South Jordan city limits, including two inside Daybreak. Charters have no attendance boundary and charge no tuition, which means a South Jordan address gives you a genuine set of options rather than a single assigned school. It also means the "good school" conversation here is less about which boundary you land in than it is in most Utah cities.

Elementary schools (K–6, Jordan School District)

Nine neighborhood elementary schools have South Jordan addresses. Five feed Bingham High; four feed Herriman High.

Bingham High feeder

The Rams, and the school the city is named for. Around 750 students. Runs two self-contained support classrooms for students with significant needs, which is not something every elementary school offers. Staff have taken Huntsman Outstanding Teacher and Jordan District Outstanding Teacher awards.

Welby Elementary — K–6 · 4130 W. 9580 South, South Jordan, UT 84009 · 801-280-1456
The Wildcats, and one of the two dual language immersion elementaries in the city. Welby hosts Spanish immersion. It also has a full-time music teacher funded through the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program and runs before-school beginning and intermediate band and orchestra with roughly 100 students taking part. Over 750 students.

Jordan Ridge Elementary — K–6 · 2636 W. 9800 South, South Jordan, UT 84095 · 801-254-8025
The Eagles. Opened in 1987 and now the largest of the Bingham-feeder elementaries at about 975 students. Jordan Ridge hosts the district's ALPS Accelerated Learner Program for gifted students — worth knowing, because ALPS students attend on program placement rather than needing an out-of-boundary permit.

The Mustangs. Home to Chinese dual language immersion for grades 1–6, half the day in English and half in Chinese. About 800 students. Also hosts specialized classrooms for students with moderate learning needs, plus band and orchestra.

The Falcons. Opened in 1998, around 650 students, with three specialized support units and a dedicated STEM lab. Elk Meadows serves as a training site for student teachers from local universities, which tends to mean extra adults in classrooms.

Herriman High feeder (Daybreak and west)

The Dolphins, and at roughly 1,100 students the largest elementary school in South Jordan. Partnerships with Rio Tinto Kennecott and the University of Utah are the distinguishing feature — students use Kennecott's recreation center for PE through that partnership. Weekly STEAM and drama classes; the school's stated academic focus is literacy, writing and language arts.

The Dragons. The second Chinese immersion school in the city, beginning in first grade, half day English and half day Chinese, with students selected at random. About 1,000 students. Also runs the Beverly Taylor Sorenson arts program with choir and orchestra.

Golden Fields Elementary — Preschool and K–6 · 10252 S. Split Rock Drive, South Jordan, UT 84009 · 801-567-8910
The Gladiators. Opened in 2017. Golden Fields uses a proficiency-based grading model the school sums up as "3 is the new 4" — mastery is measured at the end of the year rather than rewarding early top marks. Parents coming from a traditional letter-grade school should read up on this before enrolling; it is a real philosophical difference, not a cosmetic one.

Aspen Elementary — K–6 · 11189 S. Willow Walk Drive, South Jordan, UT 84009 · 801-567-8960
Opened in August 2021, making it the newest school in South Jordan. In the Daybreak community, around 800 students, with the Beverly Taylor Sorenson music program, rotating STEAM specials and computer science enrichment. Be aware that Aspen is over capacity and the district projects it will grow further — see the FAQ below on open enrollment.

Rocky Peak Virtual Elementary — K–6 · 3706 W. 9800 South, Suite 190, South Jordan, UT 84009 · 801-567-8480
Jordan District's online elementary school, with synchronous, asynchronous and self-paced options plus optional in-person "PEAK Time." It has a South Jordan office address but serves the whole district — it is not a boundary school for any neighborhood.

Middle schools (grades 7–9, Jordan School District)

Elk Ridge Middle School — 7–9 · 3659 West 9800 South, South Jordan, UT 84009 · 801-412-2800 · feeds Bingham High
The Wapiti — elk, chosen by student vote in 1994 over "raptor." Elk Ridge opened in late August 1994 in a building that wasn't finished: no main hallway, gym or cafeteria, with students eating lunch on hallway floors from food trucked over from South Jordan Middle. The cafeteria opened that November and the gym in January. Around 1,150 students today.

South Jordan Middle School — 7–9 · 10245 South 2700 West, South Jordan, UT 84095 · 801-412-2900 · feeds Bingham High
The Snow Leopards. Opened in 1989 as the replacement for the old Bingham Middle School. Around 1,180 students. Every seventh grader takes Technology, Life and Careers (TLC); the school also runs an honors track and vocational offerings in woods, home ecology, business and computer science.

Mountain Creek Middle School — 7–9 · 5325 W. Bingham Rim Road, South Jordan, UT 84009 · 801-412-1000 · feeds Herriman High
The Moose. The newest middle school serving the city, opened 15 August 2019 at a cost of about $29.5 million. 178,000 square feet built for up to 1,800 students, with 54 teaching areas, an auditorium seating roughly 800, a cafeteria seating 630, and maker space, pottery, dance and fitness rooms. It opened with about 1,080 students against a projection of 1,000 and now runs around 1,310 — growth has been quicker than planned.

Copper Mountain Middle School — 7–9 · 12106 Anthem Park Blvd., Herriman, UT 84096 · 801-412-1200 · feeds Herriman High
The Colts, on a 26-acre campus of about 210,000 square feet, roughly 1,100 students. This school is in Herriman, not South Jordan, but it serves part of the Herriman High feeder that includes South Jordan addresses. Uses standards-based grading, a FLEX academic support period, and PCCR (Planning for College and Career Readiness) conferences.

High schools (grades 10–12, Jordan School District)

Bingham High School — 10–12 · 2160 West 10400 South (South Jordan Parkway), South Jordan, UT 84095 · 801-256-5100
The Miners, and the only comprehensive high school physically inside South Jordan city limits. About 2,460 students. Bingham's history is the most interesting of any school in the valley: it was founded in 1908 as a branch of Jordan High in Bingham Canyon, starting with twelve freshmen in rooms above Canyon Hall. It moved to a brick building on Bingham's Main Street in 1912, to a three-story building in 1924, to Copperton in 1931, and finally to its current South Jordan campus in September 1975. The mining name is not decoration — it is where the school actually came from.

Athletically, Bingham holds 22 state baseball championships, among the most of any school in Utah, confirmed in the UHSAA records book. On the academic side it runs four on-campus career and technical pathways — Family and Consumer Science, Business, Information Technology, and Skilled and Technical — with six career student organizations: DECA, FBLA, FCCLA, HOSA, SkillsUSA and TSA. AP and concurrent enrollment are offered.

The Mustangs. Opened in August 2010 and now roughly 2,520 students, the largest high school serving South Jordan families. Herriman High is in Herriman, not South Jordan — it draws from Herriman, western South Jordan including Daybreak, and part of Riverton, through Copper Mountain and Mountain Creek middle schools. If you are buying in Daybreak, this is almost certainly your high school. Do not assume Bingham.

The Owls, and Jordan District's alternative high school — physically in South Jordan. Valley works with students who are not thriving in a traditional comprehensive high school, using individualized instruction and a curriculum tailored per student. The school describes it as "not an easy way out, nor is it diluted learning, but rather a better way to educate nontraditional students."

Jordan District's tuition-free online high school, opened in fall 2021 and based in South Jordan. Two live sessions per class each week plus asynchronous work; students can enroll full time or take a single course alongside their boundary school. Around 315 students.

South Jordan students can attend either Jordan Applied Technology Center campus at no cost, in addition to their home high school. Neither is in South Jordan.

A classical liberal arts charter built on the Trivium, with the motto "learn how to think, not what to think." Chartered in 2005 and opened in 2006; around 360 students. Describes itself as homeschool-friendly and offers individual courses to part-time students.

The only full-range private school in South Jordan. Founded in January 2005 as American Heritage of South Jordan and renamed Anthem Preparatory School for the 2022–23 school year — older directories still carry the former name. It follows an American Classical Education model, offers in-person, hybrid and distance options, requires uniforms, and is accredited PreK–12 by the Northwest Accreditation Commission of Cognia. It is a non-denominational Christian school that states it welcomes students of all faith backgrounds. Tuition is not published publicly — call the school.

A secular Montessori school with dual-language programs in Spanish and Chinese, thirteen Montessori classrooms, on a campus built in 2014 alongside the Jordan River Parkway. Tuition is not published.

Parent FAQ

How do school boundaries actually work in South Jordan?

Every home in South Jordan is assigned to one elementary school, one middle school and one high school by Jordan School District, based on the street address — not on the city, the ZIP code, the subdivision name, or what the builder's sales office told you. Boundaries cross city lines freely. That is why a South Jordan address can be assigned to Copper Mountain Middle and Herriman High, both of which are in the city of Herriman. It also means two houses on opposite sides of the same street can feed different schools.

How do I check which schools a specific address feeds?

Jordan School District publishes a free address lookup tool, and it is the only answer you should trust. Open the JSD School Boundary Look Up, click "Enter" on the opening screen, type the address into the "Find address or place" box, pick it from the suggestions, check that the map pin landed on the right house, and the panel will return the assigned elementary, middle and high school. The district's Boundaries and Map Gallery page also has separate elementary, middle and high boundary maps and a bus stop lookup.

Two cautions. First, listing sites and school-rating sites are frequently wrong or out of date on Utah boundaries — I have seen major sites list schools that do not exist. Second, run the lookup on the exact address before you write an offer, not after. If schools are driving your purchase, I will run it with you.

Have boundaries changed recently?

Yes. On 18 November 2025 the Jordan Board of Education approved two changes that took effect for the 2026–27 school year:

  • An area within the Elk Ridge Middle boundary, referred to by the district as "Area C," moved from West Jordan High School to Bingham High School. The district published this as a map rather than a street-by-street description, so use the lookup tool to see whether a specific address is affected.
  • Students in the Midas Creek Elementary boundary — a Riverton area — moved to Oquirrh Hills Middle and Riverton High, out of Copper Mountain Middle, South Hills Middle, Herriman High and Mountain Ridge High. That does not move any South Jordan address, but it relieves enrollment pressure at Copper Mountain and Herriman, which do serve Daybreak.

As of September 2026 there is no open boundary study affecting South Jordan, Daybreak, Bingham High, Herriman High, or the Mountain Creek and Copper Mountain middle school boundaries. That can change — boundary studies typically run a survey in the autumn, hold a public hearing, and go to a board vote in November.

One more thing worth knowing if you are buying new construction in Daybreak: in October 2025 a board member raised concerns about signage in Daybreak claiming the district would build a school on adjacent property. The board's view was that developers, not the district, had placed those signs. Do not pay a premium for a future school that has not been approved.

What is open enrollment, and can I just apply to a better school?

Utah lets you request a seat at a school outside your boundary. In Jordan District this is called a school choice permit, and you apply online through the district's school choice page. There are three windows:

  • 15 November to 31 December — the early window. Requests are sorted by priority category and then by random lottery. Applying on day one gives you no advantage over applying on 30 December.
  • 1 January to the first Friday in February — still early enrollment, but now first come, first served.
  • After the first Friday in February — late enrollment, granted only if staffing ratios allow.

The district states the permit window for the 2027–28 school year opens 15 November 2026 at 12:01 a.m. A permit does not register your child — you still enroll separately — but once granted it does not need to be renewed each year, and it lapses when your child moves up to the next level of school. Students accepted into Accelerated Learning (ALPS) or Dual Language Immersion do not need a permit at all while they are in the program.

Three things families are regularly caught out by. You provide your own transportation — district policy is explicit that there is no busing to a school you permit into. Sibling preference exists at elementary level only; the middle and high school priority lists have no sibling category. And a school may decline for lack of space, though it may not decline based on your child's past academic performance, and you have the right to appeal to the Board of Education.

Realistically, what are my chances of getting a permit?

Lower than most families assume, because most South Jordan schools are already over capacity. The district publishes the numbers at Enrollments for Out-of-Boundary Permits. As of October 2025, enrollment exceeded the early-enrollment capacity figure at South Jordan, Welby, Jordan Ridge, Monte Vista, Elk Meadows, Aspen, Golden Fields and Eastlake elementaries, and at South Jordan Middle and Mountain Creek Middle. Denials are routine: Herriman High denied 74 of 130 permit requests, and Jordan Ridge Elementary denied 39 of 57.

The honest advice is that buying inside the boundary you want is far more reliable than counting on a permit. If a particular school is the reason you are moving, treat the boundary as a hard search filter, not a preference.

How do charter school admissions work?

Charter schools are public and free, and by Utah law any Utah resident may apply — there is no boundary and your address neither qualifies nor disqualifies you. When there are more applications than seats, selection is by random lottery. Schools may give preference to siblings of current or former students, children of employees, children of founders and board members, and military families; a 2026 change to Utah law also allows preference for students who live in the same city as the school when their assigned school is full.

There is no single statewide application deadline — each charter sets its own window and must post its enrollment procedures at least 60 days before applications open, so check each school's own site. Waitlists keep moving after the lottery, because schools may fill a vacancy immediately from the applicant list. One date does matter: if your child is at a charter and you want to return to your district boundary school, notify that school before 30 June to be guaranteed a seat.

How does school choice affect home values in South Jordan?

This deserves a careful answer, because the internet is full of confident numbers that do not survive scrutiny.

What the credible research says. The standard study is Sandra Black's 1999 paper in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, which compared homes on opposite sides of the same elementary boundary and found parents paid about 2.5% more for a 5% increase in test scores. Later work by Bayer, Ferreira and McMillan (2007) found that once you control for the fact that better schools sit in more affluent neighborhoods, roughly 86% of the apparent "school premium" disappears. So the effect is real, measurable, and considerably smaller than agents typically claim. The widely quoted Brookings statistic that homes near high-scoring schools cost 2.4 times as much is a raw correlation across whole metros, not a boundary effect, and it is routinely misquoted as though a school adds that much to a house.

What the local numbers show. South Jordan spans two ZIP codes, and they look very different. For the three months ending July 2026, Redfin put the median sale price in 84095 (the eastern, Bingham High side) at $884,204 and in 84009 (Daybreak, the Herriman High side) at $599,367. The citywide median was $635,682, against $558,352 for Salt Lake County. The Salt Lake Board of Realtors put 84095 single-family at $925,000 for Q2 2026.

But that gap is not a school premium, and I will not sell it as one. Price per square foot in the two ZIPs is almost identical — about $245 in 84095 versus $236 in 84009, a difference of roughly 4%. The $285,000 median gap is overwhelmingly about house size and product mix: 84095 is larger detached homes on bigger lots, while Daybreak carries heavy townhome and condo volume. Anyone can check this in five minutes, and an agent who tells you Bingham's boundary is worth $285,000 is either not looking or hoping you won't.

The practical takeaways for a buyer: a strong boundary supports value and, more importantly, liquidity — homes in sought-after boundaries tend to draw more showings and sell faster in a slow market. But do not overpay on the assumption that a school boundary is worth a six-figure premium here, and do not assume boundaries are permanent. They are redrawn by board vote, as they were in November 2025.

Which schools are closest to Daybreak?

Daybreak families are typically served by Aspen, Daybreak, Eastlake or Golden Fields elementary, then Mountain Creek Middle, then Herriman High. Two charters — Early Light Academy and American Academy of Innovation — are inside Daybreak itself, and Mountain West Montessori Academy is nearby. As always, confirm the specific address with the district lookup rather than assuming.

Talk to me before you commit to a boundary

Schools are the single most common reason my clients pick one South Jordan neighborhood over another, and they are also the thing buyers most often get wrong — usually by assuming Bingham when the address feeds Herriman, or by trusting a listing site's school data instead of the district's.
