Best Schools in West Jordan, UT: A Parent's Guide for 2026

Every public and charter school serving West Jordan, Utah — with grade levels, addresses, and the answers parents actually ask me when they’re house hunting.

If you’re moving to West Jordan, Ut with kids, the school question usually comes before the house question. And it should. In this city the school your children attend is decided by the address you buy, and that decision is a lot harder to undo than repainting a bedroom.

I’ve put this guide together because there is no single page anywhere that lists every school in West Jordan with its grade levels and address in one place — so I built one. Every school below is verified against the district or the school’s own website, not scraped off a ratings site.

Here’s what you’ll find: the full school list, how boundaries actually work here, how to check exactly which schools a specific address feeds, how open enrollment works if you want a school outside your boundary, and how all of this shows up in home values in West Jordan.

One district, two high schools

West Jordan is served entirely by Jordan School District. There is no second district to keep track of, which makes this simpler than it is in some neighboring cities.

Where it gets interesting is that West Jordan is big enough to have two comprehensive high schools, and the district organizes its schools into “feeder systems” built around each high school’s boundary:

• The West Jordan High feeder covers the older, eastern side of the city — generally the Redwood Road corridor and east, ZIP codes 84084 and 84088.
• The Copper Hills High feeder covers the newer, western side of the city — the subdivisions out toward Mountain View Corridor and the Oquirrh foothills, ZIP code 84081.

Both feeder systems are entirely inside West Jordan. A West Jordan address will land in one or the other, and which one you’re in matters, because it determines your elementary school, your middle school, and your high school all at once.

Elementary schools here run kindergarten through 6th grade, middle schools run 7th through 9th, and high schools run 10th through 12th. If you’re coming from a state where 9th grade is high school, note that in Jordan District your 9th grader is still at the middle school. That catches a lot of transplants by surprise.

None of West Jordan’s schools currently run a year-round calendar. The district publishes traditional nine-month calendars for all levels.

West Jordan High feeder schools

Serving the eastern side of the city.

One worth calling out: Majestic Elementary Arts Academy on Redwood Road is not a standard neighborhood elementary. It’s an arts-focused school, and families sometimes seek it out specifically. If the arts are a priority for your child, put it on your list before you decide where to look for a house.

Copper Hills High feeder schools

Serving the western side of the city — every one of these is in West Jordan, 84081.

A note on Copper Hills High’s address: older listings and map apps still show it as 5445 W. New Bingham Highway. Same school, same spot — the district and the school both use Copper Hills Parkway now.

Oakcrest Elementary is the one school on this list that includes a preschool grade. Several others — Copper Canyon, Falcon Ridge, and Mountain Shadows — host special-needs preschool classes. If you have a child who qualifies for early intervention services, that’s worth asking the district about directly, because those programs are placed at specific buildings rather than offered everywhere.

Charter schools in West Jordan

Charter schools are public schools, tuition-free, but they are not tied to your address. You apply, and if there are more applicants than seats, admission is by lottery. That means a charter is never a guarantee — plan your house purchase around your district boundary, and treat a charter seat as a bonus if you get one.

Itineris Early College High School is exactly what the name says — students work toward college credit alongside their high school diploma. For a motivated student who wants to walk into a university with credits already banked, it’s one of the more distinctive options in the valley.

Mountain Heights Academy is a statewide online charter. Its offices are in West Jordan, but students attend from anywhere in Utah. If your family situation calls for online schooling — a competitive athlete, a child with a health need, a family that travels — it’s a real option and it’s headquartered right here.

Hawthorn Academy runs two campuses. The one in West Jordan on 2200 West serves K–9; the other campus is in South Jordan. When you apply, make sure you’re applying to the campus you actually want.

Technical and specialty schools

These serve students from across Jordan School District, not just West Jordan, but they’re located in our city:

JATC North is the one I’d point out to families with a high schooler. It’s the district’s career and technical school — welding, automotive, health sciences, construction, IT and similar programs. Students stay enrolled at their home high school and go to JATC for part of the day. I’ll admit a personal bias here: I’ve spent a lot of years building and fabricating things with my own hands, and I think a kid who comes out of high school with a trade skill and no debt has a head start that’s easy to underrate.

What parents usually ask me

How do school boundaries actually work in West Jordan?

Your address determines your school. Not your neighborhood’s name, not what the listing says, not what the last owner told you — the address, checked against the district’s boundary map.

Jordan School District draws separate boundary maps for elementary, middle, and high schools, and they do not line up neatly. It’s entirely normal for two houses on the same street to feed the same elementary but different middle schools, or for a neighborhood to be split by a boundary line that runs down the middle of it. The district uses demographic planning software and adjusts boundaries when schools get crowded or a new school opens.

The short version: never assume. Check the address.

How do I check which schools a specific address feeds?

Use the district’s own lookup tool. It’s free, it takes about fifteen seconds, and it’s the only answer I trust:

Type in the street address and it returns the assigned elementary, middle, and high school. There’s also a bus stop lookup if you want to know where your child would catch the bus before you make an offer.

Do this for every house you’re seriously considering. I do it for my clients as a matter of course, but I want you to know how to do it yourself, because you’ll want to check it at eleven at night when a new listing pops up and I’m asleep.

One warning: the school information shown on national real estate portals is frequently out of date, because those sites buy boundary data in bulk and refresh it on their own schedule. The district’s map is the source of truth. If they disagree, the district is right.

Can my child attend a school outside our boundary?

Yes. Utah has open enrollment, and Jordan District calls it a school choice permit. You can apply to send your child to any school in the district with room, regardless of where you live.

The district runs three windows:

1. Early Enrollment Phase 1 — November 15 to December 31. Requests in this window are sorted by category and priority, and go to a lottery if the school is oversubscribed.
2. Early Enrollment Phase 2 — January 1 through the first Friday in February. First come, first served.
3. Late Enrollment — after the first Friday in February. These are granted based on staffing ratios, meaning it depends on whether the school has room once they’ve counted heads.

You apply through the district’s online permit portal, and it’s separate from regular registration — a permit does not enroll your student, so you still have to register.

My honest advice: apply early if you’re going to apply, and buy the house that works with your boundary school anyway. A permit can be denied, and a permit granted for elementary school doesn’t automatically carry forward. I’ve seen families stretch their budget for a boundary they wanted, and I’ve seen families get a permit and save the money. Both can work. What doesn’t work is buying a house on the assumption that a permit is a sure thing.

Does the school boundary affect what my home is worth?

It affects demand, and demand is what moves price.

Here’s the mechanism, in plain terms. A large share of buyers in West Jordan are families with school-age kids, and many of them filter their home search by school before they ever look at a floor plan. If your house sits in a boundary those buyers are targeting, you have more people competing for it. More competition means it sells faster and holds its price better in a slow market. If your house is in a boundary fewer people are targeting, you’re not doomed — you just have a smaller pool, and pricing and presentation matter more.

Two practical points I’d want you to know:

Boundaries change. Jordan District has redrawn lines when schools got crowded and when new buildings opened. A boundary is a real factor in value, but it isn’t a permanent feature of the house the way a lot size or a mountain view is. Buy the house, the neighborhood, and the commute first; treat the boundary as an important tiebreaker, not the whole decision.

Proximity is not the same as boundary. Being able to see the school from your porch does not mean your children attend it. I’ve had this conversation more times than you’d think. Check the map.

Which side of West Jordan should we look in?

That depends more on your life than on the schools, honestly, and I’d rather ask you a few questions than hand you a canned answer.

The broad strokes: the west side — the Copper Hills feeder, 84081 — is where most of West Jordan’s newer construction is, with larger lots in some subdivisions and quicker access to Mountain View Corridor if you commute south or west. The east side — the West Jordan High feeder, 84084 and 84088 — is the older, more established part of the city, closer to Redwood Road, the Jordan River, TRAX, and generally a shorter drive to downtown Salt Lake City.

If your commute is downtown, the east side usually wins. If your commute is toward the point of the mountain or the west side, the Copper Hills side usually wins. If you have a specific school in mind, that decides it for you.

What if my child needs specialized services?

Ask early and ask the district directly. Special education programs, early-intervention preschool, and some specialized services are placed at particular buildings rather than offered at every school, and that placement can affect which house makes sense for you. Jordan District’s Special Education department can tell you where a given program is housed. This is one where I’d rather you talk to the district than take my word for it — the placements change, and your child deserves an answer from the people who make the decision.
