Best Schools in South Jordan, Utah for Families

South Jordan has become one of the most sought-after cities along the Wasatch Front for families, and schools are a big part of that story. With master-planned neighborhoods like Daybreak, a young and growing population, and steady investment in new buildings, education is central to how this city is built and how families decide where to buy.

This guide lists every public and charter school that serves a South Jordan address — including the two that sit just over the line in Herriman, because plenty of South Jordan students attend them. Under the tables you will find a parent's guide answering the questions I get asked most by families moving here.

Public & Charter Schools Serving South Jordan

All district schools below are part of Jordan School District. Click any school name to go to its own website.

Elementary Schools (K–6)

A few of these have programs worth knowing about before you pick a neighborhood. Welby runs a Spanish dual language immersion program. Monte Vista and Eastlake both run Chinese immersion starting in first grade. Jordan Ridge hosts the ALPS program for gifted learners. If one of those matters to your family, it should shape which part of the city you shop in, because immersion seats are tied to the school.

Middle Schools (7–9)

Copper Mountain is physically in Herriman, but it serves part of the Daybreak area, so it belongs on any honest list of South Jordan middle schools.

Note the grade bands: in Jordan District, ninth graders are still in middle school. Families moving here from states where ninth grade is the first year of high school are caught off guard by this more than by almost anything else.

High Schools (10–12)

This is the single most important thing on this page for Daybreak buyers. Bingham is the only comprehensive high school inside South Jordan's city limits, but it does not serve the whole city. Students on the Daybreak side are assigned to Herriman High, which is a different school in a different city. If you are shopping in Daybreak and assuming Bingham, check the boundary first.

Two More High Schools Located in South Jordan

Both of these sit inside the city and serve students district-wide rather than by boundary, so they are easy to miss:

• Valley High School, 325 W 11000 South, South Jordan, UT 84095. Jordan District's alternative high school, which describes itself as a place for nontraditional learners and has been running for about 50 years. The district does not publish a grade span for it.
• Kings Peak High School, 3706 W 9800 South, Suite 790, South Jordan, UT 84009. The district's online high school, and worth noting that it enrolls grades 9–12 — the one district high school where ninth graders are high schoolers.

Charter Schools in South Jordan

One detail on Hawthorn that trips families up: the South Jordan campus only goes through sixth grade. Students who finish sixth here move to Hawthorn's West Jordan campus for seventh, which is a different building and a different drive. Worth knowing before you enroll a second grader.

Addresses and assignments above are current as of September 2026 and are given for general reference. Always confirm the boundary for a specific address before you write an offer — the next section explains how.

A Parent's Guide to Schools in South Jordan, Utah

1. How is the school system organized here?

South Jordan is served by Jordan School District, one of Utah's largest, covering South Jordan, Riverton, Herriman, Bluffdale, Copperton and most of West Jordan.

The grade bands are elementary K–6, middle 7–9, and high school 10–12. Say that back to yourself if you are coming from out of state, because it means your ninth grader is a middle schooler and your sixth grader is still in elementary. Neither of those is what most of the country does.

South Jordan is also home to five tuition-free public charter schools, which operate independently of the district and run their own enrollment and lottery processes.

2. Which high school will my kids actually attend?

South Jordan splits between exactly two high school feeders, and which one you land in depends on your address:

• Bingham High, fed by Elk Ridge Middle and South Jordan Middle, which are in turn fed by South Jordan, Welby, Jordan Ridge, Monte Vista and Elk Meadows elementaries. This is generally the older, eastern and central part of the city.
• Herriman High, fed by Mountain Creek Middle and Copper Mountain Middle, which are fed by Aspen, Daybreak, Eastlake and Golden Fields elementaries. This is generally the Daybreak side.

That is the shape of it today. It is not permanent, and it changed recently.

3. Have the boundaries changed lately?

Yes, and this one went largely unnoticed. On November 18, 2025 the Jordan District Board approved a boundary change effective for the 2026–27 school year that moved an area inside the Elk Ridge Middle boundary — referred to in district materials as "Area C" — from West Jordan High to Bingham High. A separate change moved the Midas Creek area in Riverton to Oquirrh Hills Middle and Riverton High, which took pressure off Copper Mountain and Herriman.

Here is my honest caveat: the district published Area C as a map image rather than a list of streets, so there is no street-by-street list I can hand you, and I am not going to invent one. What I can do is look up any specific address on the district's own tool and tell you what it actually returns today. If you are buying in that part of the city, that matters, because a third-party website will likely still be showing you the old answer.

4. How do I check which schools a specific address feeds?

Use the district's own address lookup and nothing else:

JSD School Boundary Look Up 2026–27 — type in an address and it returns the assigned elementary, middle and high school. The district's hub for maps and boundary information is at planning.jordandistrict.org/boundaries.

That is the only source I rely on, and I would encourage you to treat it the same way. Zillow, Redfin, GreatSchools and Niche all pull school assignments from data that is frequently a year or more out of date. In a city growing as fast as South Jordan, and with a boundary change that took effect this school year, a year is more than enough to be wrong.

One specific example of why: GreatSchools currently lists a "Creekside Middle School" in South Jordan. There is no such school. It is a stale duplicate record for Mountain Creek Middle sitting at the identical address. Similarly, there is no Challenger School campus in South Jordan or Riverton, despite what some listing sites imply — the nearest one is in West Jordan.

5. What if we want a school other than our boundary school?

Jordan District calls this a school choice permit, and it is genuinely open — you can request any school in the district, in or out of your boundary. But the timing matters and most families find out about it too late.

The windows work like this:

• November 15 through December 31 — early enrollment. Requests are considered by category and priority, and then by lottery if a school is oversubscribed. This is the window you want.
• January 1 through the first Friday in February — still early enrollment, but now first come, first served.
• After the first Friday in February — late enrollment, considered based on staffing ratios.

For the 2027–28 school year, that first window opens November 15, 2026.

Two things nobody tells you until after you have applied. First, there is no busing for permit students — district policy puts transportation on the parent. If you are permitting a child across the city, that is your drive, twice a day, every day. Second, denials are routine at the popular South Jordan schools, because most of them are at or over capacity. The district publishes the actual approval and denial counts school by school at planning.jordandistrict.org/permitenrollments. Look at the school you have in mind before you build a home purchase around getting into it.

My advice, plainly: if a specific school is genuinely important to your family, buy inside its boundary. A permit is a hope, not a plan.

6. What charter school options exist?

Charter schools are public and tuition-free, and they are open to any Utah resident through an application or lottery rather than being tied to your address. South Jordan has five:

• Early Light Academy (K–9), in Daybreak, and the largest of the five.
• Hawthorn Academy (K–6 at the South Jordan campus), core knowledge curriculum.
• Mountain West Montessori Academy (K–9), Montessori instruction through middle school.
• American Academy of Innovation (6–12), project-based and competency-based.
• Paradigm High School (6–12), a classical program built on the Trivium, open since 2006.

Because charter enrollment runs on lotteries and waitlists, apply well ahead of the school year, and do not make a home purchase contingent on getting a seat.

7. Do schools actually affect home values in South Jordan?

This is where I am going to disagree with most of what you will read, because the numbers here do not say what agents usually claim they say.

South Jordan straddles two ZIP codes, and they look very different on paper. For the three months ending July 2026, Redfin put the median sale price in 84095 at about $884,000 and in 84009 at about $599,000. City-wide was about $636,000, against roughly $558,000 for Salt Lake County as a whole. That is a gap of nearly $285,000 between the two halves of one city, and it is very tempting to point at the school boundary running between them and call it a school premium.

But look at price per square foot over the same period: about $245 in 84095 and $236 in 84009. Roughly four percent apart. If buyers were really paying a large premium for one feeder over the other, it would show up there, and it does not. The gap is about house size and product mix — 84009 has far more townhomes and attached product, 84095 has more large detached homes on bigger lots. An agent who tells you otherwise is either not looking at the per-square-foot numbers or hoping you won't.

That is not the same as saying schools do not matter to value at all. The careful research says the effect is real but modest, and much smaller than the raw numbers suggest. The best-known study on this, by Sandra Black in 1999, found buyers paid roughly 2.5 percent more for a five percent improvement in test scores. A later study by Bayer, Ferreira and McMillan found that once you control for the neighborhood itself — who your neighbors are, what the houses are like — about 86 percent of the apparent school premium disappears. You have probably seen a figure claiming homes near high-scoring schools are worth 2.4 times more. That number is a raw correlation being passed around as if it were causation.

The practical version: buy the school you want your child in because you want your child in it. It is a good reason. Just do not buy it as an investment thesis.

8. How should schools factor into my home search?

Two streets apart can be two different elementary boundaries, and a house that looks perfect on paper can come with a school that is not the right fit — or the reverse, a house you would have scrolled past sitting in exactly the boundary you wanted. When we work together I will:

• Run the district's address lookup on every home you are serious about, before you get attached to it
• Tell you where a school sits on capacity, and whether a permit is realistic if you need one
• Flag which parts of the city are likely to see boundary attention next, given where the building is happening
• Point out the immersion and specialty programs that are tied to a specific building, so you can shop accordingly
